Throughout most of Saturday Evening, Yorktown Fire was running wires down and other utility related calls. Eight minutes after midnight however, 60-control alerted Yorktown Fire to a reported structure fire on Underhill Ave, just west of the Taconic. As multiple units signed on, 60 Control updated incoming units that they were receiving multiple calls on this job,and the 10-75 box was struck.
One of our Junior corps members was driving up the Taconic and stated the top two floors of the house were fully on fire from the rear, and flames were 40-50 feet in the air.
Car 2533 arrived first on scene and updated units that he had a 2 story residential with heavy fire showing. Fire was extending up the C side of the building and up the top 2 floors of the home and making its way into the living area of the structure. Engine 273 and Tanker 14 arrived moments after the size up and stretched a line into the structure. 273 knocked the bulk of the fire while other members conducted a primary search. 273 was able to contain the fire to the rear of the structure saving a majority of the house and its contents.
Millwood, Somers, and Croton's tanker stood-by as a water source, and Mohegan responded with their FASTeam. All mutual aid departments responded with an Army of manpower, and Yorktown would like to sincerely thank you for your aid.
