October 3, 2011

At 1729 hrs on October 3rd, Yorktown Fire and Mohegan's FASTeam on the dual dispatch to Yorktown Box 5, were alerted to a possible structure fire on Maiden Lane in the south end of our district. Engine 273, Engine 272, Tanker 14, Car 2533, and Car 2532 all signed on moments after dispatch. Units were updated that neighbors were reporting flames from the roof and windows breaking. With this information, Millwood's engine and tanker were special called due to the remoteness of the residence.

Engine 273 arrived on location and transmitted the 10-75 assignment with heavy fire through the roof and throughout the second floor, bringing in Croton's Engine and Tanker, and tankers from Continental Village and Somers. Engine 272 pulled up seconds behind 273. At that time, neighbors and police were reporting that the homeowner was still inside, and 272's crew immediately supplied 273 with their tank water, and sent their crew to work to hold the fire back and attempt a search for the potential victim. A 2.5" line was immediately stretched to attempt to knock down the bulk of the fire on the A/D side, and an 1.75" was brought to the B/C corner to stop the fire's progression.

Units attempted to make entry through the 2nd floor B/C corner, but were driven back by the collapsing roof and sagging floor. A defensive operation was then called as conditions deteriorated rapidly.

Multiple landlines and monitor nozzles were put into use during the defensive operation, and Katonah's tanker was s/c for additional water.

Units were eventually able to knock down the bulk of the fire, and the scene was placed under control at 2345hrs.

Mount Kisco Mutual Engine Co, and Ossining Tower Ladder 42 stood-by in our quarters for the duration of the incident, our many thanks go out to you as well as all the MA received from our surrounding departments.
