| On 3/4/12 at 1545 hrs, Yorktown's Ice Rescue Team was dispatched mutual aid to Somers FD to assist is the removal of 5 Children from the ice who were stranded.
Water Rescue 55, marine 55/56 arrived on location, and after checking in with the IC, immediately sent 2 ice rescue techs to the shore line along with shore personnel. It was determined that there were no children stranded, but rather 3 men who were ice fishing, and the ice was giving way around them. State Police had a helicopter on location, and had successfully removed 2 of the victims, when the 3rd had suddenly fallen into the ice. Yorktown immediately sent their team into action, and their member swam out to the victim who was partially submerged and clinging onto the ice shelf. After making contact and securing the victim, shore members then pulled the two out of the water and off the ice.
All the victims were transported to local hospitals without incident, and Yorktown Fire cleared without further incident.
