At 18:49hrs on Jan 2, Yorktown units were dispatched to Dell Avenue off Rt. 100 for an inside smoke investigation. Car 2532, Car 2533 and Engine 273 were responding shortly after dispatch. While units made the very long trip across town to the call County Fire Control (60 Control) advised responding YHFD units that Yorktown PD and DEP Police were on scene declaring a working fire. With this new and very helpful information Car 2532 requested the working fire dispatch be sounded due to the presenting problems; the home is located outside the hydrant district and that the located atop a hill with a tight and very long driveway. While mutual aid was being dispatched, Car 2532 arrived on scene with "Heavy smoke showing". Engine 273 arrived right behind by the chief and dropped a supply line up a driveway by wrapping it around a tree so next arriving Tanker 14 could pick their line. Once on scene crews dismounted and stretched a 250 ft pre-connected line due to the extensive size of the home and the unknown location of the fire. Once inside crews quickly located a room off in the rear, crews made a very aggressive interior attack holding it to the room of origin; they checked for extension and conducted searches that proved negative. By this time all responding mutual aid from Millwood, Somers and Ossining were canceled with our thanks. All Yorktown Units later cleared the scene at 20:35 hrs.
The Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No 1. Would like to extend our thanks to the responding mutual aid companies including Millwood, Somers, the FASTeam from Ossining and the Lake Mohegan FD who stood by in our quarters during the incident.
