Over the past few days massive flooding has devastated upstate NY. In response, the NY State Mutual Aid Plan was set into action and Westchester County assembled a task force to assist. This task force gathered at the Westchester County Fire Training Center and departed on Thursday 6/29 at 0500. The team was composed of 52 Firefighters from Pelham, New Rochelle, Fairview, Hartsdale, White Plains, Somers, Mohegan Lake, Croton, Croton Falls, Montrose, Verplanck, Purchase, and Yorktown. The crews were then deployed to their various locations from Broome County Office of Emergency Management located in Binghamton, NY. Yorktown was sent to the town of Vestal, just outside Binghamton, to relieve crews who had been working nonstop since early Tuesday. Yorktown Firefighters first assisted in the emergency evacuation of a residential area, which local authorities determined to be at a high risk of flooding. The remainder of their time was spent manning Vestal Fire Department's Station Number 4 as the truck company, alongside the crew from Somers on Engine 4. All units were released by the Vestal Fire Chief on Friday morning, at 0930 hours.
