Yorktown's bravest experienced a high call volume of serious alarms on Sunday 8/22 beginning right at midnight.

At approximately 1215 am, YHFD was dispatched to a person in the water at "The Trestle." Units were on the road with 5 divers, and 2 water rescue officers, along with numerous other shore support personnel and firefighters seconds after the dispatch. Somers Fire Department was called in to provide stand-by for coverage of the town while Yorktown units were operating. Yorktown FD divers worked aggressively through the night to find the victim, however, the victim was recovered by the DEP Police the next morning.

During the water operation, Somers FD responded to two calls for a possible structure fire, and a MVA with extrication as the water rescue operation was clearing. Somers Engine 188 along with Yorktown's Rescue 16 and Engine 273 responded to the Taconic Parkway and arriving units found a single car MVA with an occupant trapped. Engine 188's crew went to work along with Rescue 16's crew to free the trapped driver.

Throughout the day, Yorktown fire units responded to numerous calls of service from wires down to MVA's with extrication's, with the night coming to an end with a single car MVA on the Taconic with a car fire. Engine 273 and 271 arrived with full crews minutes after dispatch and found a car off into the brush in the median. 273's crew stretched the attack line and extinguished the fire. 271's crew then worked to overhaul and extinguish any remaining fire in the car. Units cleared the scene and finally were able sleep through the rest of the night .
