Members of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company Underwent an Annual Inspection Friday Oct. 27

By First Assistant Chief Martin McGannon
October 27, 2006

For three weeks members of the engine company worked on Yorktown Fire District equipment. Four engines, two ladders, one rescue, one tanker, mini attack, one utility, dive trailer, tower light, and three chief's cars. All went under an over hall. Members removed all equipment and cleaned all compartments and under carriages. They sharpened all the axes and chain saw blades making sure they're ready for the next call. Working countless hours and sometimes sleepless nights, members worked to make the Fire Districts equipment look their best.
In Yorktown we have an engineer program, assigning one member to an apparatus. The engineers are responsible for the rig they are assigned all year round. This program helps in the upkeep of the equipment and the inventory. The engineers make sure the apparatus is back in service after calls. At inspection time it becomes a competition between engineers. Each year the Chief has the apparatus judged by chiefs or ex- chiefs from other departments. This year was very challenging for the judges. The engineers and the members out did themselves. But like in all competitions there has to be a winner. This year's winner by only a few points went to Engine 271 and Engineer Joe Palladino. Every member deserves a trophy. They all do an exceptional job.
After the inspection the member and the invited guests enjoyed a dinner dance at Ceola Manor. A well derived good time by all.
We would also like to thank Somers FD for standing-by for Yorktown.
