Shortly before 6:00pm on 12/26/12, Yorktown's bravest were alerted to the Taconic State Parkway for a motor vehicle accident. Due to the hazardous road conditions from the winter storm multiple vehicles were scattered along the highway disabled. Engine 270 had checked the stretch of the TSP and exited via RT 134 exit with negative findings of any accident when 60 control advised all units they were receiving a call for a reported structure fire just a few houses down on Kitchawan Road.

Engine 270 arrived within seconds and after investigating confirmed a 10-75 (working fire) for a fire in the fireplace with extension to the interior walls and through the rear of the residence. Engine 270's crew stretched two 1 3/4" hose lines into the residence, one to the first floor and another to the second floor. Shortly after, Engine 273 made their way up the driveway to feed their tank water to 270. Crews initiated an aggressive interior attack and while visible fire was being knocked down on the first floor Engine 270's officer and 2 crew members made their way into the attic and with the use of the thermal imaging camera found fire extending into the attic space, a hoseline was quickly put into operation in the attic to attack the fire.

Mutual aid was provided by Millwood FD, Croton FD, Ossining FD and Pocantico Hills FD and standby coverage was handled by Mount Kisco FD and Mohegan Lake FD. Due to the extremely hazardous road conditions, alternate routes had to be taken delaying units. The fire was under control in a little over an hour and units were back in service by 7:30pm.
