70 Year Engine Company Member and United States Air Force Veteran Honored

On Thursday November 17, 2016 Senator Terrence Murphy held the 2016 New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. This year one of our own was nominated by the Town of Yorktown Town Board to receive the honors. Roger Thompson a 70 year member of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company and Air Force Veteran (Korean War).
Roger Thompson was born November 13, 1929, in Manchester, VT. His family moved to Yorktown in 1935. Son of a WW1 Army Veteran, George Thompson. Roger decided to serve in the Air Force National Guard when he was 18. He served in White Plains, NY from 1948 until the start of the Korean War, when he was activated for duty. Roger served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Newfoundland tracking Russian subs in the North Atlantic where he achieved the rank of Airman First Class.
Roger Thompson was a member of the Yorktown Rotary back in 1970’s. He currently is an active member of the Yorktown American Legion and the Yorktown Lions. Roger planted he roots in Yorktown when he joined the Yorktown Heights Engine Co. in 1947. He is the senior member of the company and the membership congratulates him on his achievements. The members of the Engine Company would also like to thank the Yorktown Town Board for nominating Roger Thompson and Senator Terrence Murphy to bestowing and recognizing Roger and all our distinguish Veterans.
