We need your help! For the 10th year in a row. The Yorktown Heights Engine Co. No. 1/ Yorktown Heights Fire District is pleased to announce that we will be providing Thanksgiving meals for our Seniors, Veterans and those in need. Last year we prepared and delivered approximately 200 meals!! How it works On the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, Yorktown Heights Volunteer Firefighters meet to cook, prepare and package a complete Thanksgiving meal. Those meals are then hand delivered by YHFD Volunteers on Thanksgiving Day to our Senior Citizens, Veterans and those families in need in the Yorktown area. Unfortunately, over the years the number of meals needed continues to grow. The assistance from Yorktown residents and various groups over the years has been tremendous. If you would like to assist us with this important project we are accepting donations of the following items: -Stuffing -Canned cranberry sauce -Canned green beans -Turkey gravy These items can be left in the rear vestibule of our Commerce St Fire Station (1916 Commerce St) from now until November 22nd. Any of the canned goods left over or donated after we have prepared the meals get donated to several local food banks. We are also in need of turkey breast, NOT full turkeys (This makes the preparation a lot easier for us). We are also accepting donations of gift cards for local supermarkets (which helps us purchase other items for the meals.) If you would like to donate turkey breast or a gift card, please send an email to [email protected] to make arrangements for drop off. In the past a number of groups have asked to assist in preparation or delivery. Unfortunately, due to various circumstance and insurance regulations we have to keep this in house with our firefighters. Thank you to everyone for their continued and future support of this amazing Yorktown tradition!
