| On 4/21 at 20:53hrs Yorktown Fire was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm on Kear St. Car 2531, Engine 272 and Engine 274 responded on the initial alarm. Units arrived on scene to find an unoccupied standalone structure with the business owner arriving on scene and opening the door. Units quickly found smoke in the interior, with an active fire in a light fixture. Fire was contained to the point of origin, and damage was minimized to the local area. Yorktown fire cleared shortly after. We'd like to highlight the importance of a working and monitored fire alarm system by a professional company. Because this business had closed for the day, the only reason the fire department received prompt notification before the fire grew out of control, and the ability to minimize damage, was because of the working and monitored fire alarm. Any deviation and the fire would have been noticed after it was well advanced and involved. Monitored fire alarms immediately notify a central station, which in turn immediately calls the fire department. In the event of a fire, it typically starts the response process before the 911 is normally placed. |
