| At 10:30hrs on Monday, March 30th. Yorktown Heights Fire was dispatched with our Firefighter Assist & Search Team (F.A.S.T.) to assist the Somers Volunteer Fire Department for a reported fire in the vacant IBM World HQ on Route 100. Car 2532, Car 2533, and Rescue 16 responded on the initial assignment. While YHFD units were en-route, the Somers IC requested an additional YHFD Engine to the scene, adding Engine 274 on the run. YHFD units arrived and were immediately put to work by the Somers IC. Yorktown Heights Volunteer Firefighters placed a hoseline in service, located and room and contents fire and extinguished it. Car 2532 was assigned “Operations” and Car 2533 was assigned “Fire Attack/Fire Sector.” This incident was further complicated as firefighters from multiple area departments encountered multiple doors that were welded shut or otherwise fastened closed along with other obstacles and hazards in the large vacant structure. YHFD Volunteers operated on scene for around 3 hours before returning to service. |
