| This past week has found Yorktown's Bravest at the old Quarry on the Entergy property in Verplank. Yorktown's Water Rescue Unit successfully completed 5 training dives as well as a site survey and Boat Operations refresher. It began Wednesday night when members assembled to do two dives around the buildings that protrude from the water, as well as plan for the second half of the training a few days later. Sunday was an all day affair, including 3 dives of 30 feet each, taking the unit to all sides of the quarry.
During the decompression time between dives all the members took turns refreshing there boat skills including general maintenance, setup, maneuverability, as well as taking depth readings throughout. The two dives were a pleasant change of pace for the unit because of the great visibility in this unique body of water. The North-east is known for its "Black-water" and the team very much enjoyed being able to see more than 6 inches in front of them. Overall it was a great two days of training as the unit tries to keep all of its skills sharp for the next time they are called to duty. |
