On Dec. 14 2007 Yorktown Heights Engine Company #1 mourns the loss of Past Lieutenant John (Mike) Anderson. Mike served as Lieutenant of Yorktown Heights Engine co. #1 from 1998 and 2000. Mike Anderson started his career in YHFD in 1965 at the age of 16. Then in 1969 Mike entered in to the USMC where he served his Country in Vietnam. In which John received the Purple Heart not once but I believe two times. When John returned home he went back to work for the Town of Yorktown Parks and Recreation, spending over 33 years with the town, he retired as Park Foreman.
In 1994 John reentered the Yorktown Heights Engine Company. This time bringing his wife Anne, together they worked on committees to help make the company move forward. It was at this point in time when I met Mike. I can go on to tell you what I have learned from him and stories of the different events him and others have been through at the fire house. These are good memories that we will hold for ourselves.
Mike had a side to him that not many had the privilege of seeing. His love for wild life was, well I think this picture says it all.
"Mother Nature lost a good soldier".
Rest in Peace John (Mike) Anderson.
