On October 5 at approximately 15:38 Hours YHFD Volunteers were alerted to the intersection of Underhill Avenue and Route 129 for the rollover possibly involving a tanker truck. Rescue 16, Engine 273, and Car 2531 marked up responding after dispatch and arrived to find a 5,000 Gallon Tanker truck that had rolled over multiple times into a ditch and then hit a tree. The truck's occupant was pulled out of the truck by a passer-by and was being tented to by EMS who arrived at about the same time as the FD. The main concern was that the top hatch of the tanker had been broken with a couple of hundred gallons of No. 2 heating oil spilling out of it. Crew worked diligently to contain the leak as best they could with the majority of the leak being stopped after placing chocks and wedges into the broken hatch. Crews also pulled a bumper line off E-273 as a precaution. Due to the location of the vehicle and that the majority of Yorktown is located in the NYC water shed and the accident scene was only 300 yards from the Croton Reservoir multiple resources were called in as a precaution. After the vehicle was stabilized by the towing company, the rest of the oil had to be pumped out of the truck, once that was taken care of the vehicle was lifted out of the ditch. With no other injuries or hazards the scene was turned over to DEP Police and the clean up crews to mop up the scene. All Yorktown fire Units cleared the scene at 22:06.
