Overnight Snow Stand-by Ends With Morning Car Fire

For the third time this year, Yorktown Volunteer Firefighters manned the stations overnight for a major snow storm rolling through. Luckily for the overnight shift, they were awarded with much needed sleep, however received their morning wake up call right on time at 7am, when they were alerted to a car fire in the area of Underhill Ave. Engine Company 273 took in the assignment and arrived to find an SUV burning in a snow bank. Firefighters made a quick knockdown of the fire, dammed up the water runoff as it contained fuel and other oils, and turned the scene over to PD and the towing company. Units cleared without further incident by 8am.
