| Well you know how it goes for the U.S. Postman; it also goes for the members of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company #1. The 2011 Yorktown Heights Firemen's Parade started off with a few rain drops and ended with a heavy down pour, but the men and women of Yorktown and other fire depts. marched on, as did the many parade spectators (our supporters). The members of Yorktown THANK YOU for sticking it out in the rain and standing proudly to show your support.
Wednesday June 22nd Yorktown kicked off its 5 day fundraising carnival with a dress parade that is dedicated to the victims and heroes of September 11, 2001 also to the United States Military. Friends from fire depts. came from all over Westchester and Putnam County. This year's Parade was judged by the Westchester County Parade Judges Association. The following are the 2011 winners.

Before the parade even comes to an end, members of Yorktown are busy cooking and prepping for the carnival goers. From the ladies selling cake and coffee, and raffling tickets to the Junior Corp lining up victims for their dunk tank. Yorktown's Carnival is also famous for its sausage and pepper wedges. Members of the Engine Company have to earn the right to learn the secret recipe of the famous S&P wedges. Before a member can make it to the back of the food booth he or she has to work the front waiting on patrons and cooking hamburgers and hotdogs.
The carnival is a good time for Volunteer Firefighters to mingle with the public and a time to raise money. As everyone knows the cost of everything is going up. Many people in the town are unaware that the building and the grounds that are known as 1916 Commerce St. and the home of Yorktown Heights Engine Company #1 are privately owned. Fundraising events like the Carnival are one of the ways the company pays the oil and electric bills.
