As members of the Engine Company were relaxing in the day room of the Commerce St. Firehouse, at 1632hrs, members overheard on the Yorktown Police scanner that they had an active car fire in the rear of the Police Station. Engine 273 was on the road responding as the first set of tones dropped.
Engine 273 arrived on location minutes later to find an active Police SUV fire in close proximity to the Sanitation garage. Police were actively trying to extinguish the flames with the legendary "first due, green line" and multiple fire extinguishers to no avail. Members ascertained that there was no ammunition or weapons inside the SUV, and began to extinguish the fire. Yorktown fire contained the fire to the engine compartment, determined the fire to be non suspicious in nature and that it was more then likely caused by excessive use and high mileage.
All Yorktown units cleared the scene without further incident.
