On Monday September 17, 2012 members gathered to present Past Chief Roger Sniffen with his 50 year commemorate plaque and Badge. Roger Sniffen joined the Engine Company in 1962. After working his way up through the ranks Roger Sniffen was made Chief in 1972. Chief Sniffen had such an impact on the training levels of the membership and modernization of equipment, he was asked to server two more terms in 1980 and 1981. While understanding the ever-changing fire service Chief Sniffen also understood the importance in preserving the history of the service and the Company. Chief Sniffen was instrumental in securing and the funds for the restoration project of Yorktown's antique 1934 Maxim Motors fire engine.
Like all the members of the Engine Company Roger had a career. Besides protecting the residents of Yorktown against fire, Roger was a firefighter in Greenville NY. Mirroring his life in Yorktown to his career life in Greenville FD he also worked his way through the ranks and past his civil service exams to make rank of Deputy Chief. Roger Sniffen served as Deputy Chief of Greenville FD from 1981 to 1986 when he retired with 30+ years.
On behalf of the Yorktown Heights Engine Company #1, congratulations Chief Roger Sniffen on all your achievements.
