| With the 2014 "Firematic Year" and a new slate of firematic officers, it is evident that YHFD continues on progressing in the right direction. As outlined below, here is just a brief peek into what’s new for 2014...

• Oversee conditions, activities and operations. o When there’s a noted risk, take the appropriate action. o Keep Incident command informed of noted conditions and actions taken • Make certain that rehab is established whenever deemed necessary • Ensure personnel accountability. • Establishment of hazard areas (Collapse Zone, Hot Zones, etc...) • Evaluation of traffic hazards at incidents (vehicular and foot traffic) • Prevention of scene freelancing
We wish Jackie the best of luck in this new position.
Formal Engineers
To further ensure readiness to respond, and equipment accountability, officers as well as firefighters have been assigned to oversee specific pieces of apparatus. This will assist in safeguarding YHFD's reputation when responding to and operating at an incident.
Adoption of IAR® into YHEC SOGs.
Utilizing a state-of-the-art personnel responding system , and scene support programs-" I am Responding ®" responding personnel can immediately identify themselves as responding and even identify where they are responding to. Furthermore, this system will assist firefighters allowing them to locate hydrants, and see information regarding construction type, and allow us to keep notes on particular hazards. This will further the strength of the personnel accountability system, and help assure apparatus respond with adequate manpower.
Renovations of our existing Communications Center
To enhance accountability, future Federal FCC compliance, and department reliability the communications center (Often referred to as the "Radio Room"), located at Station 1 is undergoing a major transformation. This new digitally integrated radio console, with dedicated CAD, Radio, and accountability screens and a whiteboard wall for larger scale incidents and storm standbys, will help enhance critical communications, and personnel + community safety.
Yorktown Heights Engine Company Number 1 is always seeking new membership. If interested, please stop by the Station 1 firehouse during any Monday night drill and ask for a prospective member packet.
