Welcome
Another Busy 24 Hours For The YHFD

It’s been another busy day in “The Heights!”

So far today your YHFD Volunteers have responded to numerous calls for service which include’s the usual “smells and bells”, a multi-car Motor Vehicle Accident with injuries on the Taconic State Parkway that brought the morning rush to a crawl and a mutual aid request with for our Tanker 14 to respond and assist one of our neighboring departments.

Just as the Tuesday night staffing crew at our Locksley Rd Fire Station was about to sit down for dinner. Yorktown Heights Fire was dispatched to a residential fire alarm on Hanover St, our crews were out the door within seconds leaving their food on the table.

After they returned, our members did their best to reheat “tonight’s special”. Baked pork chops, with sautéed green beans and rice pilaf. Prior to the meal the crew checked their apparatus and conducted a critique of our last fire on Oslo dr and a quick drill before enjoying some quality family time at the kitchen table.

Previously the YHFD made the progressive move to allow overnight staffing at Fire Station 2 on Locksley Rd with our Interior Firefighters and Apparatus Chauffeur qualified Volunteers during the overnight hours.

Approximately 4 years ago, the Officer on Call program was implemented to guarantee overnight coverage of a firematic officer. With that being a huge success, the staffing program has been mirrored to mimic the time commitments of the OOC program. Members staffing will be in quarters from 6pm - 6am. Members are encouraged to treat the firehouse as their second home while they are here.

The YHFD Responded to 715 fire related alarms last year with none being EMS related making us one of the busiest fire companies in Northern Westchester. Our call volume is ever increasing, and we are constantly looking for more help.
