*Additional Fires/alarms*
On Wednesday, January 24th at approximately 18:33hrs, Yorktown Fire with the Croton FASTeam was dispatched to the area of Hanover St and Harwood Pl for a house fire. Yorktown Car 2531, 2533, Engine 272, Ladder 51, Engine 274, Engine 270, and Rescue 16 responded on the assignment. While FD units were responding, updated information from Yorktown Police confirmed a house fire on Harwood Pl.
Engine 272 and Ladder 51 arrived on scene and were met with fire showing out of the windows on the second floor and extending into the attic space. A 10-75 was transmitted assigning an additional engine from Mount Kisco, and a Tower Ladder from Mahopac to the scene. Crews forced entry, removed a dog from the structure, and immediately placed the initial attack line in service while making an interior fire attack on the 2nd floor. Due to the age of the building and its style construction with plaster and lathe, a deep-seated fire throughout the 2nd floor, attic space, and its void spaces was found.
While the main body of fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of arrival, YHFD and Mutual aid crews remained on scene for approximately 4 hours extinguishing, opening, and exposing void spaces, and overhauling the structure.
While operating at the Harwood Rd 10-75, an additional possible structure fire in the YHFD first due was dispatched. YHFD Engine 274 and Mahopac Tower Ladder 18-5-1 responded immediately as they were in-service from the original fire scene, with Engine 270 and Ladder 51 momentarily behind. YHFD and MVFD found and handled a Chimney fire on Giordano Dr. The fire was confined to the chimney with no extension.
While these simultaneous operations were occurring, a 3rd dispatch occurred requesting YHFD’s FASTeam to respond to the Putnam 911 Center for a possible fire with smoke in the building. E274 was assigned, and while responding was returned to service by Carmel FD’s Command.
YHFD units returned to the original fire to assist with completing salvage and overhaul.
