A YOUNG FAMILY BURNED OUT OF THEIR NEWLY RENOVATED HOME
By First Assistant Chief Martin McGannon
February 28, 2007
At 00:58 Tuesday morning, Yorktown Heights FD was dispatched to a reported house fire on Allan Ave. Additional reports from Fire Control (60 Control) had neighbors calling reporting a fully involved house fire. First arriving Unit (Car 2533) reported a working house fire with fire through the roof and out front windows, prompting 60 Control to fill out the assignment, bringing LMFD F.A.S. Team to the scene and one engine from Somers FD to relocate to Yorktown headquarters. Engine 271 and Ladder 51 arrived at 01:02 and crews stretched a 13/4 hand line off E-271 and brought it through front door. Ladder 51's crew took to the roof utilizing a trench cut to prevent further spread of fire. Engine 271 reported water problems; Battalion 17 had Somers engine redirect to the scene and called for one engine from Millwood FD to back fill headquarters and one engine to relocate from the City of Peekskill to station 2. The water condition was corrected when Eng-273 picked up another hydrant. Somers crews then stood-by at the scene. Car 2531 reported fire under control at 01:33, and requested Westchester County C&O team (zone 4) to the scene to assist in the investigation. Extensive overhaul had to be done and building was then secured. Car 2531 cleared the scene and released all stand-by companies. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
