Saturday March 3, 2007 members of Yorktown took part in Cold Water/Ice Rescue training. Lt. Swart instructed members in new techniques and refreshed on old ones.
The Town of Yorktown is 47 sq miles and has many lakes in it boundaries. Many times when the ice on the lakes appears safe to go out on there are mishaps. People will go ice fishing and skating and disregard the signs telling them it isn't safe. For this reason members of Yorktown FD continually train.
Message to the public do not go out on the ice unless it has been tested and checked daily by the Town of Yorktown Parks Dept.
