March 4, 2007
Yorktown Heights Engine Company #1 mourns the loss of Life Member and Ex Captain Joseph Bergin (Joe) who passed away Saturday evening. Joe was 73 and a member with 38 years of active service. Joe held the rank of Captain in 1976 1977. He was also elected to the Board of Detectors were he served on many committee's. His favored was chairing the Car Raffle Committee.
Joe was best known for his ability getting his best picture at your worst time. Like not having all your gear on or the occasional fire fighter parking in a fire zone, Joe was there to get that picture. Along with his many picture of fire scene in Yorktown, Joe and the late Walt Androsko traveled many time to the city getting picture of FDNY in action. They were well known down there, and I believe it is there he received the title Photo Unit One.
He also had a love for Hot Air Balloons, many times he and a few of the guys would travel all over the country to various Hot Air Balloon shows.
In the word of Joe Bergin "Thanks For Coming" followed by his laughing.
RIP- JOE
