The Members of the Board of Fire Commissioners would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciations to Senator Murphy for his help and all the hard work he does not only for his District but also the State. We would like to also thank Chief Jeff Slotoroff for all the hard work he and his committee put into this grant.

Senator Murphy’s Grant Helps Generate Emergency Power for Yorktown Firefighters
September 8, 2016 by Terrence Murphy
YORKTOWN, NY – We all know someone who was rescued from injury and possibly even death through the heroic actions of a fireman. As a Yorktown resident, a public servant and a local businessman, Senator Terrence Murphy knows the dangers firemen face each time they go out on a call. With the population in the Yorktown area growing, a new fire station with an emergency back-up system is a vital need. To help fund the project, Senator Murphy secured a $250,000 grant toward the purchase of an emergency power generator for the new Kitchawan Fire and Rescue Station at 800 Kitchawan Road in Yorktown Heights.

“With the extreme weather patterns and the number of power failures we have been experiencing in the northeast the past few years, it is vitally important that our new firehouse has an alternate power source in order to maintain service,” said Senator Murphy. “We appreciate the job our firemen do and their vigilance in keeping our community safe.”
The new fire and rescue station will house fire department apparatus, equipment, and will act as a sub-station with the necessary accommodations consistent with fire stations. The emergency power generator will be equipped with an automatic transfer switch which will ensure that the generator is always on line and the station never loses power.

The Yorktown Heights Fire District (YHFD) is responsible for approximately 36.2 square miles and 30,000 residents and businesses. In 2015 alone, the YHFD responded to 608 separate incidents.
